Ethernet cable is a transmission medium used in computer Ethernet LANs and is one of the most important components in enabling computer network connectivity. Ethernet cables are typically used to connect multiple computers and other network devices within a small area such as a building or data centre, allowing them to transmit data to each other.
An Ethernet cable is the cable that you connect between your computer, TV, game console or other device and your router, modem or network switch. It allows your device to access your local network or the Internet. Although Wi-Fi has become a very common way to connect to the Internet, Ethernet cables can provide a faster and more stable Internet connection than wireless currently does.
Ethernet cable is what we usually call network cable, also known as Category 5 cable. It is a multimedia wire that spreads data, voice and other information communication services. It is widely used in broadband user premises network and other broadband access projects, and its quality is directly related to the transmission quality of information communication.
Classification
Common Ethernet cables have the following types:
1. coaxial cable: coaxial cable is a cable that transmits signals and consists of a layer of insulated conductors, an encrypted fabric, a metal shield and an insulating sheath. The transmission distance of coaxial cable is short, around 10M, and is suitable for small-scale network connection.
2. Twisted-pair cable: Twisted-pair cable is one of the most common types of Ethernet cables nowadays, which has the advantages of ease of use, fast transmission speed and low cost. Twisted-pair cable is usually divided into UTP (unshielded twisted-pair) and STP (shielded twisted-pair) two types, of which the UTP cable has poor anti-jamming ability, suitable for low-speed network connections; while the STP cable has a strong anti-jamming ability, suitable for high-speed network connections.
3. Fibre optic cable: Fibre optic cable is a high-speed data transmission cable with fibre optic as the transmission medium, which has the advantages of fast transmission speed and good flame retardant properties, and is suitable for places requiring long-distance high-speed data transmission.
